Registration to Unlock data
Unlock currently offers two different location databases - one is based on open data from geonames.org; the other is based on a range of data products from Ordnance Survey GB. Access to OS data is limited to academic projects and services. Geonames search is offered as a free and open service - you can just get started with the API. OS search requires registration for an API key; read on.
UK Academic institutions who subscribe to Digimap Ordnance Survey Collection are eligible for access to our added-value gazetteer database compiled from different Ordnance Survey sources. You can access Digimap Collections through a UK Federation login, and there register for an API key.
If you belong to a subscribing institution, you will have to register personally to use the Ordnance Survey Collection; new registrations are processed nightly.
Please visit http://edina.ac.uk/digimap/access/subscribe.shtml for more information.
Please contact EDINA's helpdesk if you are having problems with this process.
If you are not an academic institution but are within the UK Public Sector (local authorities, libraries, etc) and covered by the Pan-Government Agreement or the One Scotland Mapping Agreement, we may be able to work out an access arrangement, and are in any case interested in hearing from you. Please contact unlock@ed.ac.uk regarding potential arrangements for non-academic sites.
